Carbon markets are booming globally. The session will discuss the possibility to use carbon markets as a tool to reduce corporate emissions and explain the nature of voluntary and compliance markets.
Marcus Ferdinand, head of analysis at Greenfact will provide insights into the different carbon markets around the world. He will specifically focus on the European carbon market. A fundamentally short market in combination with continued interest from the financial market caused carbon prices to hit levels close to €100/t in February. The Russian invasion to Ukraine led to a price crash to €55/t in just a few days, followed by a swift recovery to levels around €80/t. To understand the recent price swings, Marcus will explain price drivers in the context of the wider Fit-for-55 process and provide an outlook for prices and market developments
Stig Schjølset, faglig leder at ZERO, will discuss the role of carbon credits for corporate stakeholders and their role in reaching a net zero pathway
Knut Vrålstad, Head of strategic market analysis at Aker Horizons will speak about carbon markets in the context of financing decarbonisation projects
Hilde Røed, Senior Vice President Climate and Sustainability at Equinor will provide insights into the role of carbon prices for investment decisions and the company's net zero strategy
Harald von Heyden, Head of Renewables at Arctic Securities discusses carbon markets from a renewable asset financing perspective
